从南京市环保局获悉，南京市烟尘控制区覆盖率达102％，比市文明城区测评体系中该项指标A类标准高出12个百分点，达到494.4平方公里。其中，高污染燃料禁燃区的规模已达424平方公里。
江宁区东山街道外港社区属于高污染燃料禁燃区，社区内前不久开业的喜田宾馆在选用锅炉时，选择了大型太阳能热水器燃油炉。宾馆负责人介绍说，燃油锅炉仅作为冬季或阴雨天的补充，平时不用启动，每天即可得近10吨50℃以上的热水。而且，燃料价格只有煤的一半，“真是经济、环保双赢。”
南京市环保局工作人员介绍说，文明城区创建以来，环保部门对4吨以下燃煤锅炉加大改造力度，截至目前，已有400多家单位的700多台锅炉开始使用清洁能源，有效削减了二氧化硫和烟尘的排放。而今，烟尘控制区面积已超过建城区10平方公里， 还市民一个有洁净空气的城市。
